Loving Floridians in Ian’s Aftermath

Last month (November, 2022), a team of volunteers from CCBCHU and Horizon Christian Fellowship drove to Punta Gorda, FL to help citizens recovering from Hurricane Ian’s devastation. The team was invited by The Rock Calvary Chapel, itself the victim of storm damage but now the home of the Disaster Relief Center.

This ministry scheduled and guided our team to local residents early in their cleanup of damage. Projects included tear downs, clearing and hauling away material and cutting up downed trees.

Seeing the hard labor and results, residents wanted to pay the teams but were instead prayed over and asked to hear the gospel. Wes Hoff, trip leader and CCBCHU Instructor said, “Not accepting their money helped us explain that Christ’s coming and dying for them was also freely given and not earned.”

The teams from CCBCHU and Horizon Christian send a special thanks to:

  • The Rock CC for the invitation and leadership
  • Sandy Adams and CC Stone Mountain for hosting our team overnight in the trip down
  • Chris Vanover and CC Nashville for the same on the trip home.
